Yamaha EZ-200 Lights Up To Help You Play

This Yamaha EZ-200 keyboard is really cool. It is suitable for anyone but in particular beginners who might need help and motivation to practice. Why? Because the keys actually light up in the order that you should play them! This is a great idea as it means you don’t have to read the music so rigidly! That is something that put my daughter off learning the keyboard. In the end she would memorize the piece but it has limited her learning. This keyboard would have been ideal for her but she is no longer interested.

What Exactly is the Yamaha Education Suite

Yamaha EZ-200This feature really is fantastic. There are 3 lessons for each hand and then one lesson for putting them together. The lessons incorporate learning the melody, keeping in correct time and what Yamaha call a waiting mode. This means that while you practice with the built in song if you make a mistake the song with wait until you correct it before continuing.

The LCD display will show you what fingering to use too so it really is like having your own teacher at hand. The display also has a chord dictionary which makes learning chords much easier.

Your performance and progress through the lessons is graded at the end so you can see how well you are doing.

Another Cool Feature

It seems the Yamaha EZ-200 has its own learning capacity too! According to the manufacturers this keyboard will adapt to the way you are playing. Suppose you are playing a song with only one finger doing the chords and the keyboard is doing the rest of the accompiament, well if you get to a part that you know well and can play chords with 2 fingers the EZ-200 with automatically switch to 2 finger mode and then back again if you go back to one finger. Pretty cool huh?

Customer Positive Reviews

  • quality sounds that sound like the real instrument especially the grand piano
  • really straight forward to use and play
  • great for learning with the keys lighting up and the LCD showing you what finger to use
  • great for learning to play piano if you can’t read music
  • touch sensitivity is really good
  • the lighted keys function can be turned off as you get better
  • love the full sized keys
  • great value and quality

Negative Reviews

  • does not have a USB connection
  • the keys are not weighted like an acoustic piano

If you purchase this from Amazon then you should know up front that the keyboard stand does not fit the keyboard snuggly. Plenty of customers have been upset with this so I would recommend buying a stand separately.

Overall the Yamaha EZ-200 really is a great keyboard at a very good price. The learning suite is really effective and since you learn to play quickly it keeps learners motivated to carry on.
