Who Should Buy the Casio SA-76 Mini Keyboard?

The Casio SA-76 electronic keyboard has only 44-keys so it is really small. I was surprised to read so many positive reviews about it because for me such a small keyboard does not appeal at all even for children. So who is buying it and why is it so good?

Casio A-76 Product Features

A quick look at the product features of the Casio SA-76 shows that it has 100 tones and 50 rhythms programmed in which isn’t too basic. There are also 10 integrated practice songs to have a go at and play along with. There is a button that you can press to switch from piano to organ really easily.

Despite its size it still manages to have an 8-note polyphony so you can play some decent pieces with both hands.

It has an LCD display too so you can see at a glance what features are set. On the display you will also see what note you are playing and the tempo of any rhythm selected. There are also 5 drum pads that you can set up with different percussion sounds.

The notes or keys themselves are not full size so younger children will be able to play quite comfortably.

This keyboard can be powered by 6 AA batteries or with the power supply (if you purchase from Amazon then neither are included in the price so you will need to buy them separately).

casio-SA-76The keyboard has a built in lesson function that allows you to practice songs step by step. Ideal for making it more fun for children!

  • small, compact and lightweight so easy for children to carry around
  • the orange color underneath the keyboard adds to the attraction
  • good variety of sounds and rhythms
  • great for adults who want to play on the move or use it for ideas while out and about
  • you can play 8 notes all at once and they all sound
  • quality sturdy keyboard so fine for young kids to carry around
  • very easy to use
  • can be used with an ear piece

  • make sure you purchase the right adapter as the one that Amazon sells is not compatible – one customer has done all the research and was able to describe the adapter – you will need a Casio AD-A95100L adapter (however it seems to be quite pricey)
  • the keys really are small so no good for adults with large hands
  • according to one person it doesn’t take nickle or oxyride type batteries
  • you will find some sites description claiming that keys light up to help you learn songs – this is not true. If it was then this would be a huge bargain!

Suitability of Casio SA-76

The Casio SA-76 keyboard is therefore most suited for children first learning to play or even for those younger children who want to have a bash on a keyboard. It is priced cheap enough for parents to purchase just to see if their child is interested in the keyboard and there is enough variety and scope if they become keen and start learning different musical pieces. I would recommend it as a first for children even as young as 2 years.
